Starting Over

Instead of upgrading their 1995 C14, Team Sauber completely overhauled the design of its Red Bull-Sauber-Ford for the 1996 racing season. In fact, the only two features carried over from its 1995 model were the gears inside the transmission and the camera weight. Team Sauber pursued a completely new design concept when Ford made the move from a V8 engine configuration to its Zetec-R V10 and new technical regulations were specified by the FIA for the 1996 season. The Zetec-R V10 is smaller in all major dimensions than the V8 it replaces. Team Sauber used high-resolution graphics systems to visualize the small design details that would give them the vital seconds necessary to win a race.
